For many of us reaching 17 or deciding at a later stage that you want to learn to drive is a really exciting prospect. The freedom to go where you like, when you like and not have to rely on others for lifts is a great feeling. For some, it might mean the long wait for public transport is over! Whatever your reason for learning to drive, we aim to make that experience as relaxed and enjoyable as we can. We understand that for some, the whole thing can be a bit daunting. That’s ok too. We have professional driving instructors who can guide you through every step of the way.
Here at Andy1st we pride ourselves in delivering an excellent standard of driving tuition but more than that, we provide guidance and help when it comes to confidence boosting and safety awareness. We are not just here to teach you the basics, help you pass your test, then leave you to get on with it, far from it! We pay particular attention to hazard perception, observational skills and also offer short courses to be taken after you’ve passed your test to provide you with even more knowledge, experience and skills.
The Pass Plus courses involve taking 6 additional lessons which are under or in situations you may not have encountered in your lessons to date. These scenarios may include driving in the dark, on motorways or in bad weather. These situations are not ones you would face every day but they will need facing at some point and being prepared is half of the battle. These courses were designed to reduce the number of accidents on the roads involving new drivers and they have certainly helped to achieve that.
So, once you have made contact with our Head Office and an instructor has been assigned to you, we get the ball rolling. All of our instructors are qualified in line with industry standards and are patient, flexible and friendly. They will relax you and guide you at a pace that suits your experience and learning style. They will take valuable time out to assess the way and the speed in which you learn. This enables them to tailor make a package which is just right for you. Not only will they teach you 3 point turns, reversing around corners and negotiating junctions, they will teach you necessary skills for staying safe on the roads.
We can provide lessons at a time and from a place that is convenient to you. We understand how difficult it is fitting everything into our lives today and so we try and make learning to drive easy to fit in and accessible to all. Whatever your individual needs are, we aim to meet them. Some people prefer to learn with a female driving instructor – that’s fine we have both male and female instructors. Some people need lessons in the evenings or at weekends, that’s fine too. Our flexible driving instructors help make that happen.
We will help with all aspects of tuition including accessibility to driving such as requiring an automatic car to learn in. We will help with your practical and theory test and can provide help for those with additional needs. We want you to feel as safe, comfortable and confident as possible as once you’ve passed that test, you’re on your own. You’re out there making decisions and negotiating routes and signals without the assistance of your instructor.
We also provide collision data which may sound like a pretty odd thing for a driving school to do but bear with us whilst we explain. This data has proved very beneficial to pupils and instructors alike. We have analysed data over a number of years that shows us where there are accidents hotspots. For example, certain junctions or roads where there are a higher than average number of road collisions. This allows you and your instructor to practice them, get used to them and build up confidence on them. That way, they won’t fill you with dread when you approach them. It’s a great opportunity for you to familiarise yourself with them especially if they are routes local to you and form part of a regular journey for you.
So, in Solihull, our hotspots are as follows :
The majority of collisions happen right in the town centre. There are a fair few traffic islands in Solihull and extra care and attention should be applied when approaching them. The main 2 islands in Solihull are where the Warwick Road (A41) meets Lode Lane, not far from the hospital. This island has a high volume of traffic on it and people are generally in a rush to get over and that’s where the issues lie. The other island is slightly further along as is where Lode Lane meets Streetsbrook Road and Blossomfield Road, outside Jimmy Spices. Again, it is mainly due to weight of traffic and peoples’ impatience at having to wait which causes problems there. Also, like in all town centres you have visitors who are trying to find places and their hesitance can cause accidents.
The other junctions where quite a few accidents occur are on Streetsbrook Road / Olton Road and on the A41 Solihull By-Pass where it crosses Hampton Lane and Yew tree Lane, not far from the Spire Parkway hospital. Extra diligence should be paid in these areas.
This data is not provided to scare you, merely highlight areas you should take extra care with. We look forward to hearing from you.
