Staying safe on our roads todays is getting increasingly difficult as we see more and more traffic on our roads and faster cars. So many of our commodities are moved around the country by road these days too which means the need for larger trucks and lorries is essential. Staying alert and avoiding distractions is the best way of ensuring you have every chance of staying safe. The safety of you as a driver, your passengers and other road users is something we take very seriously here at Andy1st driving school in Loughton. We ensure we teach you the basics of driving but with the added skills of observation and hazard perception thrown in.
Many family members or friends who drive will no doubt tell you that the real learning starts once you’ve passed your test! That’s when everything you’ve learned gets put to the test – literally! There’s no-one next to you giving you instructions of where to go or how to manoeuvre, it’s you and your decision that counts. Making those decisions, in some cases, can be a matter of life or death and in others can just mean the difference between a call to the insurance company or not! Whether it be an accident or small prang you’re involved in, it means time and money take a hit too.
We want to avoid these situations wherever possible which is why we provide excellent tuition delivered by some of the best driving instructors in the country. They all have local knowledge and are very experienced. They will know the roads to take you on in order for you to gain the maximum experience and familiarity. There are some journeys that you will do time and time again because it’s a place you go to often, perhaps a friend’s house or your place of work. Other journeys and routes will be new to you and so will pose new challenges.
This is why we analyse collision data and have done for some years now. This may sound like an odd thing for a driving school to do but far from it. It’s not there to scare you either, it’s there to help both our instructors and pupils locate areas where a higher than average number of road collisions occur. This allows you to not avoid them as some may think but to tackle them and practice them especially if it forms part of a route you may take often. Familiarising yourself with these tricky areas will help boost your confidence and keep you focussed on these junctions. You will be able to apply more care and attention to them thus staying safer.
In Loughton, Oakwood Hill has its fair share of accidents reported. Take particular care at the junction where Oakwood Hill, Valley Hill and Roding Road meet.
There are 2 areas along Rectory Lane to look out for too. Firstly, where it meets Church Hill and again at the junction with Newman’s Lane. Both of these spots along this road have a higher than average number of accidents reported at them, some of them serious, some of them not so.
Again, this is not meant to scare you, it’s a simply a tool for you and your instructor to use in order to practise applying extra care and attention to these potentially troublesome spots.
