Staying safe on our roads is something Andy1st driving school takes very seriously. Teaching people to drive is our passion and we have helped hundreds of people to achieve their dream but we focus a lot of attention on road safety, hazard perception and being aware of what’s going on around you. Lack of concentration is the most common cause of accidents so it is imperative that you stay focussed and therefore safe at all times.
There are some people who prefer to learn in a manual car, others prefer an automatic for a variety of reasons. We can teach in both transmissions simply depending on your preference. We also have both male and female driving instructors. Some people, again, mainly through personal choice prefer a female driving instructor but whatever your choice, all of instructors are trained to an exceptional level. Our instructors all hold the required industry-led qualifications and are monitored regularly to ensure they continue to provide the high standard of tuition required.
All driving instructors can, voluntarily, agree to be observed regularly by an examiner from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). Our instructors are all happy to undertake this observation and look forward to seeing how they’ve done. They are issued with a grade, 6 being the highest grade you can achieve. The examiner observes them undertaking a lesson and grades them on how they communicated with the pupil, the standard of the instruction, safety aspects and a whole lot more. You will be pleased to know that all of our instructors have been graded either a 5 or a 6. This shows how committed we are to having the best instructors for our pupils.
With this in mind, our instructors teach you in a way that is unique to you. We are all different and learn in different ways and so your instruction has to be tailor made for you. That way, you will learn more effectively. We will spend more time on the areas you find tricky. Time will be taken to ensure you have fully grasped each different concept. Special attention will be paid to how you approach possible hazards and how effective your observation skills are. We have to be sure that when you get out there alone on the roads that you have the confidence to deal with different situations.
We have analysed local collision data and pin pointed some hotspots. Now, this is not intended to panic you nor do we suggest you avoid these areas at all costs. It is simply our way of helping you overcome tricky or awkward junctions by taking more care and applying a bit more concentration when approaching.
Our data spans 7 years and looks to accidents that have occurred on the roads in that time. They may have been slight, serious or fatal. By highlighting these areas, we feel you can benefit by being cautious and careful and making sure you approach carefully.
The main areas to watch out for in Stratford-upon-Avon are the main roads into Stratford itself and in the centre. With Stratford being such a popular tourist destination, there are many visitors and the number of bumps may well be down to volume of traffic and people looking where they are going in an unfamiliar place.
Both the Warwick Road (A439) and Birmingham Road (A3400) are notoriously busy and are smattered with collisions. On the Warwick Road, particular attention should be paid to the area close to The Premier Inn and Retail Park. There is a build-up of traffic here and lots of pedestrians. On the Birmingham Road, the junctions with Justins Avenue and Avenue Farm have quite a few accidents listed there. The Alcester Road which runs into Stratford also has its fair share of collisions.
In the centre of the town, Guild Street where it meets Union Street is a hotspot as is the other end of Union Street where it meets Bridge Street. The other roads to be careful on are Arden Street, Windsor Street and Bridge Foot. It may be prudent, if you have to travel to the centre frequently to ask your instructor to take you around this area in order to have a practice and become familiar and confident with the road layouts and traffic signals.
