I found Stephen to be the most genuine person I've ever meet, he made it so clear and exciting to learn to drive.
He knows and does his job extremely well,
I had never taken a lesson in my life and the thought of the gears had always put me off attempting to drive, but I was made so comfortable whilst learning that it all sank in pretty quick, and I
    passed 1st time,
so i would strongly recommend these courses if you are serious about passing your test,
and what better way then with great company.
Many thanks for learning me to drive Stephen.
    Mrs Vicki Barnes

Hello and welcome to Andy1st driving school in Newcastle-under-Lyme. We are here to help with all your driving needs. From questions about finding an instructor to what you about applying for your test, we’re here to guide you through this exciting journey. All of instructors are passionate about what they do; they simply love teaching people to drive. We are all so different in the way we learn; what one person finds easy, another finds tricky and vice versa. This is why our instructors love their job as it’s so varied. For those who may be really nervous or who find driving a real challenge, our instructors will gently put you at your ease and build your confidence up slowly. Nothing is too much trouble and we don’t mind if you get things wrong! You’re learning!

We not only teach the basics of learning to drive; starting the car, negotiating the gears, finding the brake and parking, we teach you confidence and safety too. We truly believe that being confident in the decisions you’ll have to make whilst driving is incredibly important. After you have passed your test you are self-reliant and you have to make choices that will ultimately keep you and other road users safe. Figures from the insurance industry show that male drivers aged between 17 and 20 are nearly 10 times more likely to be injured on the roads than more experienced drivers. They are also twice as likely to make an insurance claim as other drivers. This is why we recommend our Pass Plus course.

This course consists of 6 “extra” lessons after you’ve passed your test. Each lesson will allow you to experience driving in the following situations:-

  • In town
  • In all weathers
  • At night
  • On dual carriageways
  • On motorways
  • On rural / single track roads

This will help prepare you for life out on the road alone. Some insurance companies look favourably on those having taken the course as they deem you to be a safer driver. With this in mind, some have been known to reduce your premiums to reflect this.

The Department for Transport has published annual reports on road casualties since 1951. The reports provide in-depth information about the circumstances of road crashes, including when and where they occur, what factors caused them, and who was involved. Here at Andy1st we are very interested in this data as it helps both our instructors and our pupils. We look to see if there are any hotspots locally and advise our pupils of these areas. This may sound as though we’re out to scare you but far from it. We want you to know about this information so that you can apply more care and attention to those areas. Your instructor can take you and practice them over and over building up your confidence.

We pride ourselves on the excellent standard of tuition we provide. Our instructors are observed and monitored regularly to ensure that those high standards are maintained. You will be taught by one of the best driving instructors in the country in a safe, stylish and well-maintained car. Have a look at this collision information and discuss with your instructor. You may want to spend time together practicing these routes especially if they are places you are likely to travel to and through.

The first hotspot to mention is the island where the A53 King Street, A52 Ryecroft, Barracks Road and A527 Queen Street all meet. That is a very busy island and there have been a number of accidents reported there. Secondly, another island a little bit further along Ryecroft where it meets Lower Street is another area to look out for.

Further along Barracks Road at the junction with Hassell Street is where another hotspot has come to light as has the island where Pool Dam and the A34 Lower Street meet in an island. And finally, it’s another island!! These islands certainly cause issues in Newcastle-under-Lyme! It’s the one where the London Road, Brook Lane, Lower Street and Barracks Road all meet. There were a large number of collisions reported here especially in 2013.

We hope all this has been of use to you. We look forward to hearing from you.
