Here at Andy1st driving school we take the safety and well-being of our pupils very seriously. We are completely committed to our role of expertly teaching people to drive but we always ensure that you are ready both practically and confidently to take your test. Your instructor will get to know you very well during your time learning to drive and they will get a good idea of how you learn and the speed at which you learn too. This will give you and the instructor an indication of how many lessons / how long it will take before you can apply for your test.

You may have opted for regular, usually weekly, lessons which help you spread the cost of your lessons and allow you to learn in a methodical way. Alternatively, you may be considering or have already decided on an intensive course which involves taking all the lessons you’ll need and fitting them into say a week or two. It’s called intensive because that’s exactly what it is! You’ll be driving every day for up to 5 hours a day but it will mean you will learn very quickly.

You may have decided to choose a male or female driving instructor and you’ll need to decide if you are going to learn in either a manual or automatic car. Whatever your preferences we’ll be here to help you every step of the way. We not only teach you the basics of driving ; three point turns, emergency stops etc. we teach you a whole lot more. Our instructors are trained to an excellent standard and deliver tuition that is second to none. They will spend quality time with you on areas where you don’t feel as confident making sure that you understand and feel happy with all concepts.

We also spend a lot of time discussing hazard perception and teaching you techniques for dealing with different situations out on the roads. Every journey you take will be different for a whole host of reasons but we will do our very best to make sure you are armed with as much practice and knowledge as we possibly can. We have tried to highlight some “trouble spots” locally that we wish to draw your attention to. They are junctions or signal spots that have had a large number of collisions recorded at them.

You may think we are trying to scare you or recommending you avoid them at all costs but no, that is not the case at all. We feel it is information worth knowing especially if you are going to travel these routes when you’ve passed your test. It is our way of helping prevent accidents as you can apply more care and attention around these areas as and when you use them. You could even ask your instructor to take you around these hotspots in order to get used to them and practice negotiating around them. We hope you find this information valuable.

When analysing the data for Gloucester, it became apparent that the London Road had rather a large number of accidents along it. It needs to be approached with caution for the whole length but there are a few spots that stand out. Where the London Road meets Oxford Terrace and Oxford Street are two such places and accidents happen all the way along that road until you reach St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

In addition there are a mixture of slight and serious collisions along Bruton Way (A430) quite close to the station and beyond. Where Bruton Way merges / meets with Metz way is also an area of concern. Extra care and attention should be paid when  approaching the St. Oswald Road island and Over Causeway (A417) near Dunelm. There have been a number of accidents reported there.
