Andy1st driving school wants to ensure all of our users and pupils stay safe on the roads. Safety doesn’t happen automatically or miraculously, you need to learn valuable techniques to keep you focussed and safe. Distraction is very common and accounts for many accidents. Whether you are distracted by passengers, things happening on the roads around you or by something on the radio, you are more likely to have an accident if you are distracted. You will fail to identify hazards and potential dangers and this will lead to bumps and scrapes.

Remember to keep your distance – rear-end bumps are, by far, the most common type of road accident. Make sure you keep plenty of space between you and other vehicles, being too close means you won’t have time to stop if the car in front has to stop suddenly.  Watching your speed is another way to ensure you and pedestrians around you stay safe. Going too fast means you will be unable to stop effectively in the event of an accident. Make sure you look ahead and anticipate well. Having those finely honed perception skills will make you more observant on the roads and be able to spot hazards more effectively.

As we said, all these safety techniques are not something you automatically have. You have to learn them and practice them well. Our instructors are not just there to teach you how to start and manoeuvre a car; they are there to teach you hazard perception skills and observational techniques. We pride ourselves in delivering an excellent standard of driving tuition having only the best instructors working for us. They teach you in a style and at a pace that suits you, your preferred method of learning and your experience. They won’t waste time going over and over things that you have mastered but they will spend time on making sure you’ve got all the knowledge and experience required for passing your test and getting out driving on your own after you’ve passed your test.

We have been analysing data in order to highlight some tricky areas and / or junctions in the local area. The reason for this is not to worry pupils, nor is it designed so that people will avoid those areas. It is information given to you to help you apply more care and attention to those particular areas if or when you encounter them. By sharing this information with you, we feel we further equip you with the valuable skills needed on our busy roads today.

We have detailed a few areas where we believe you should take more care.

There were a lot of accidents noted on Nicholas Street particularly on the Grosvenor Roundabout. The areas in the centres of towns and cities are notoriously bad due to build-up of traffic and tourists trying to find their way around.

The other roads that cause concerns are St Martin’s Way (A5268) and the junction with Watergate Street. The St. Oswald’s Way meeting with City Road is another tricky one to look out for. This is really close to Chester Racecourse so approach here with care.

The A55 North Wales Expressway seems to catch people out too with a string of accidents occurring along its stretch. Where it meets Tarvin Road (A51) and where Tarvin Road meets Barrow Lane are particularly accident heavy.

As we’ve said, this data is not meant to worry you or deter you from travelling on those routes; it’s simply there to help you apply a little more caution when driving in these areas.
