If you ask any of your family and friends who drive, they will tell you that the real learning starts after you’ve passed your test. Being out there alone without the comfort of your instructor is a scary thought but you will gain in confidence and before you know it you’ll be driving around with increased confidence and pride. As long as you remember everything you have learned, you will be fine. Being confident and staying focussed is what will help keep you safe on the roads. Getting distracted causes accidents so it is imperative to keep your eyes and ears on the road at all times.
Your theory test will help prepare you for life out on the road as you will have to spot hazards and potential dangers. Your instructor will spend lots of time helping you develop these skills and ensuring you have all the tools and experience you need in order to keep safe on the roads. Your ability to assess situations quickly and deal with them effectively is a very important part of the learning process. Having to do this on roads you are not particularly familiar with makes it all the more difficult. To do this on roads that are notorious for high numbers of collisions is even harder.
When driving on unfamiliar roads your concentration and vigilance are paramount. Our expert instructors will take you on routes where you can practice everything you’ve learned and build up your confidence levels. All of our instructors are qualified to the industry-led standard and have lots of experience and knowledge of the local area. Before you know it, the roads that were once unfamiliar become very familiar!
Teaching you how to get the car moving, how to execute certain manouvres and hazard perception are all vital parts of the learning process. We take the safety of our pupils and our instructors very seriously and this is why we have started analysing collision data. This may sound like a strange thing for a driving school to do but trust us, our pupils and us have found it very useful. It allows us to identify certain roads or junctions that have a higher than average number of collisions reported at them. That way, we can advise you and our instructors and you can apply extra care and attention in these spots.
This is not meant to scare anyone, it’s a valuable service which aims to keep you informed and not keep you away! We don’t want you to avoid these areas, especially if they form part of your daily commute. Being aware of these areas, being able to familiarise yourself with them and practice them helps build your confidence and knowledge of them.
Busy roads / junctions to look out for
From the data we analysed we have identified 3 areas where a high number of collisions in Barnet occur.
The A1000 Barnet Hill where it meets Fairfield Way and Underhill has a large number of accidents reported.
The A110 Station Road at the traffic signaled junctions of Great N Road and Prickless Hill also has its fair share of collisions.
Again on the A1000, High Street at the junctions of Bedford Avenue and Meadway are areas to watch out for too.
